Petals ESB 3.x branch is the historical one. While being already modular and scalable, thanks to its distributed conception and wide range of components, we felt the need to rewrite some parts of it to attain a new level of reliability and performances. We also wanted to clarify our free policy support, being not able to cover all components at the same time.

If you want to start a new SOA-related project, we strongly suggest you to use the most recently released Petals ESB.
Still, the latest release from discontinued 3.x branch is available to download, together with compatible components and tools, on our download platform.
